HD vs Blu-ray! WTF

This subject is something that has been bothering me lately. I own 2 Blu-ray players (PS3 60gb & Sony S300) as well as a Toshiba XA2 HD player. I have around 140 Blu-ray discs and prolly around 150 HDs.

With that said.

I'm just curious why people get so in to the format war to begin with? Having both formats, I see or hear no difference. I like both formats the same and I could care less who wins to be honest. I've been on forums and all I see is people bash each other. It's kinda like being a fanboy to the tenth power! I'm all about people being down with their favorite format but, I think people do get carried away. I wish they would both last, just so it gives me another option. Look at it as a good thing. Like, videogames you have Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. 3 different companies competing for the same market (Sort of). Why can't we have that on a media level? I see nothing wrong with two formats for HD films. Whoever wins it's going to be a lot of "I told you so" all over the forum boards. Which is a little dumb. I'm sorry thats how I feel.

Am I the only one who feels like that?

Devil May Cry anime ending

I started watching the Devil May Cry anime. I love the ending theme. So here it is for your listening ears.

Episode 31 up!

Our most epic cast is up for you all to listen to.

R.D. Episode 31 - Hey Dude, We Don't Cut You No Slack

Due to Shieh’s bizarre and completely stupid germaphobia, the world was left without an episode of Robotronic Dynamite last week.

But fear not, the RD guys totally make up for it by making Episode 31’s runtime longer than Blade Runner...all three versions of it. Rock Band, Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, Contra 4, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4, Kane & Lynch, and so much more. We most certainly didn’t cut you no slack.

I hate the holidays!

Normally I'm all for the Holidays. Christmas when I was a kid was the best time in the world. Now, I dread going shopping more this time of year, then any other. People suck, I've come to realize this. People become very nasty and incredibly stupid at the same time. Whose driving at a snails pace or stopping their car in the middle of the road. People cutting on checkout lines at stores. It's like everyone loses their patience all at the same time.

Let's be for real for a minute. We all know what Christmas means as a religious holiday. If Christmas is about spending time (and money) on love ones. It's supposed to be a joyful time not a mad dash to run in to a store and be rude to random people because that $15 dollar toaster is sold out. What the fuck is that all about?

I went to Toys R Us this morning for their "Door Buster" sale looking for a Zune for $80 dollars. Well I got to the store at 4:30am and there were already like 150 people on line. Once I got inside I ask how many Zunes were in stock in which I was told there were only 12 in. So I told my friend Marcos "Let's bounce out this bitch" no reason to stay on line when all I wanted was one thing anyway. When people found this out it was like you were taking away a parents first born child. It's like the devil inside rips out of people and they lose who they were. Whatever the case, no harm no foul right? I got in my car and drove home. No big deal, I just don't know why a time when it's about bringing family's together everyone has to become a douche bag. The internet is the greatest invention of all time. I can order whatever I want from the comfort of my home and have my items delivered to me. What more could you ask for? Why do people kill themselves to go out and shop and become nasty pricks? This I will never understand.

My rant is over now.

Happy Holidays you fucks!

As promised I am returning with some more music from Zatoichi..

BTW Brandon watching Streets Of Fire on HD and you were right. Looks incredible.

Zatoichi Musical Journey 1 (1962-1964)

Sorry for the lack of updates. Truth be told I've been really lazy. November and December are crazy busy with awesome videogames. So must of my time is playing them. Last night I watched Rescue Dawn as well as Superbad. I felt the script was lacking on R.D. All and all though a very good film. Superbad was great, I was cracking up most of the film. Anyway I'm gonna be updating more frequently from here on out.

I didn't really want to turn this in to a OST blog, but doing the podcast for October and being my favorite month. It was all about horror films and the scores that go with them.

Anyone who knows me, knows I love Asian cinema. So when my uncle told me about this CD I knew I needed to listen to it.

Today I'm bringing you music from the legendary blind swordsman Zatoichi.

I have another volume I will be posting today or tomorrow.

Let me know whatcha think.

Another New Podcast Up (Episode 30)

Episode 30
Due to the RD crew experiencing severe withdrawal from Call of Duty 4, this week’s Robotronic Dynamite doesn’t flirt with the two hours mark. Instead, we jam about Silent Hill Origins, Naruto: Rise of the Ninja, Call of Duty 4, and a hodgepodge of other topics for only a mere hour and a half. But as you all probably now... whether it be a minute or sixteen hours, Robotronic Dynamite is ALWAYS awesome. If you think otherwise... you’re wrong.

Who are they? And what do they want?

One of my all time favorite Carpenter films will always be They Live. Roddy Piper was so bad ass in it. I could go on and on about it, but it's 6:45am and I'm falling asleep as I write this!

I went ahead and uploaded the score.

Enjoy!

One more day left!

So, Halloween is tomorrow and I'm still trucking along watching as many horror films as possible. I would be lying if I didn't say that I'm really going to miss the month of October. It's been a great month for me as far as watching films and surrounding myself with all that is horror and Halloween related.

Over at Robotronic Dynamite the last cast (Episode 28) for the month of October is up for all of you to to listen to. We have a great segment on Return Of The Living Dead. Please do check it out.

Fellow caster Brandon Fincher posted his top 10 Scream Queens. While I think a couple of actresses were left out. For the sake of argument it is his list after all! What do you think? Leave him a comment with what scream queens you think should be on his top 10.

So anyway, this month I've been listening to a lot of horror radio shows of yesteryear. I've found this torrent a couple of weeks ago of the 10 Scariest Radio Episodes Of All Time. My favorite being the first track Three Skeleton Key with Vincent Price. I'm going to try and post some more tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure I have my films for Halloweem set up already. I'm going to start off watching Evil Dead 2 followed by Halloween and Dawn Of The Dead all on Blu-ray.

I went out today and watched 30 Days Of Night. I had a great time watching it but I did have some problems with some of the things about the story. I felt like they didn't really give you any background story about how these Vampires live or why they are the way they are. You know what I'm saying?

So until tomorrow have a frightfully good night!

How do you kill something that can't possibly be alive?

I was watching Christine the other day and it dawn on me that John Carpenter is my idol. He can direct and compose music like no other. To be honest I think Christine might be Carpenter's best score, yes even better than Halloween.

I've included the score as well as all the songs from the film.

See it with someone you're sure of

It's been years since I've seen George Romero's Martin. I remember really being into the film tho. Romero will always be one of my favorite directors. Ever since I was a kid and I saw Dawn Of The Dead for the first time. I knew as a director he was special. Romero has this power to turn a b-movie with all the clichés intact and turn it in to a more powerful film with meaning. A lesser director wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Anyway:

Martin is a 17 year old boy with the thirst of blood. He gets off by tranquilizing women before he murders and sexually assaults them. What the film leads you to believe is that Martin is a Vampire but not in the traditional sense. He's not afraid of garlic or crucifixes. Holy water wont burn him, he's a regular kid who just so happens to drink human blood or maybe Romero is just showing us a different side of Vampires! I don't know you be the judge.

I've uploaded the score composed by Donald Rubinstein. I love the title song! Very haunting track.

He's in a coma... Yet, he can kill...

I have to admit on my quest to find some horror OST's I came across Patrick by Richard Franklin (Psycho II, F/X2). I've never heard of it but what got me excited is that the legendary group Goblin did the score for the film. While not the best efforts by Goblin it's still a very good soundtrack. My favorite track being Bagliori Di Luce. So now I'm intrigued to see what this film is all about. I already put in on the top of my queue on Netflix.

R.D. Episode 27: Dream Warriors!

New cast up over at Robotronic Dynamite

Sure, Holy Water may be able to temporarily kill Fred Krueger. But our man, Roland Kincaid, shows Freddy who the TRUE Dream Master is!

This week, the RD Crew chats 30 Days of Night, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, E4, and so much more. Who needs coffee and Red Bull when you have Robotronic Dynamite?!

Flesh Ripping Felines!

I have to admit I've never seen Fulci's The Black Cat. All though I've been meaning too. From what I've been hearing it's one of his lesser efforts. What's funny is that I was listening to the score which made me want to see it all the more. The great Pino Donaggio takes us on another journey in to time and space. I've must have listened to it 3 times already today. Very very good score.

It's Miller time!

Fred Dekker (Monster Squad) the director of the 1986 classic Night OF The Creeps. Brings us one of the best Sci-Fi, Horror comedy films EVER. I just finish watching it and it's still holds up after 21 years. The beginning of the movie with the little alien guy running around look so bad you gotta love it. The wise cracking Det. Ray Cameron played by Tom Atkins at his best. Whatever happen to Jill Whitlow who played Cynthia? She was a hottie! I don't know what it is about it but its one of those films whenever it's on I have to watch it.

I uploaded this very hard to find soundtrack for the film. I think it might be a bootleg version. To be honest I'm not even sure if there ever was an official release.

If you love the film, I'm sure you're a fan of the music as well.

In their world adults are not allowed... to live.

So, Monsters HD is showing all the Children Of The Corn films back to back. I was up until 9am watching the first 3 before I passed out.

As far as the first film is goes it's by far the best one in the series. I don't remember ever watching it, But man I thought it was great. The kids were brutal in it. Malachai played Courtney Gains was a terrifying character. Plus I have to mention that little devil worshiping Issac (John Franklin) who later appeared in COTC 666: Issac's Return. Which was terrible. I really enjoyed Children Of The Corn and Highly Recommend it for those of you that still haven't seen it or if you have just see it again.

Now as far as the score is concern I think it's one if the more frightening scores I've heard. The Title sequence alone is worth checking out the rest of the soundtrack. Jonathan Elias went on to compose the score for Pathfinder.

Download it here!

BOOOOOY!

Angus Scrimm is freaky, I think he is one of the best horror monsters. Something about Phantasm still freaks' me out. I guess the whole idea of some tall old ass gravedigger, throwing coffins and shit all over the place. Whose with me?

I was always a big fan of the score of Phantasm. Fred Myrow composed some really eerie music for the films.

I uploaded the score for both Phantasm 1 and 2. I'm still looking for the rest of the series..

Download it here!

Edit: I found this track last night. It's the theme music done with a disco beat. Check it out!

Chucky is one mean S.O.B.

So last night well actually this morning I ordered Child's Play on PPV-HD. It was well worth the $3.99 price tag. I remember seeing Child's Play in the theaters back in 1988, I was 11. The movie bugged me out big time. At that time My Buddy was kinda big for kids. Which I was never able to look at the same way again. My Buddy was the inspiration for the design of Chucky. Which looking back Chucky was compete rip off of My Buddy. Whatever the case, Chucky was one mean son of a bitch. Watching it this morning I've come to realize I think Child's Play was more of a dark comedy than a horror flick. I found myself cracking up on how raunchy they made Chucky. Who would believe a doll could come to life and kill people? It was a perfect mix children's toys with a serial killer. Long live Charles Lee Ray..

So I uploaded the score composed by Joe Renzetti. The first Child's Play was the only one he worked on. Enjoy

My Buddy
My Buddy
Wherever I go, he goes
My Buddy
My Buddy
I'll teach him everything I know
My Buddy
My Buddy
My Buddy and me!

....Pray it's not to late.

I haven't seen The Gate in years. But I do remember how cool I thought it was as a kid. I gotta see this again. Watching the trailer brought a smile to my face.

I uploaded the score I found at nightchillers.

Enjoy

A Nightmare on Elm Street - Paranoid Comic

In the spirit of Halloween, you gotta represent with some Nightmare On Elm Street. Just the whole idea of Freddy and coming out of ones dream, Is just a horrifying concept, your worst nightmares becoming reality is just nuts. Over the years Freddy's lost a little something, as each film came out it was less horror and more of a spoof. But on the other hand, Freddy's a character no matter how bad the film I will still get some enjoyment out of it.

The last real Nightmare On Elm Street film came out 13 years ago. I know Freddy vs Jason was released about 4 or 5 years ago. But I would love to see a new Freddy flick with Craven or Aja at the helm. Bring it back to it's roots.

So I downloaded the torrent for a 3 part Nightmare comic that came out in 2005 called Parnoid. Publish by Avatar Press, story by Brian Pulido (Lady Death) and Art by Juan Jose Ryp. The story is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The art on the other hand I'm still on the fence about. It kinda reminds me of the old Creepy comic style art. Which isn't a bad thing per say. I don't know let me know what you guys think.

Tales from the Darkside Intro

Tales From The Darkside was a TV series that lasted 4 years from 1984-88. I remember I was like 8 or 9 years old. The show came on at like 12am on Saturday nights on channel 11 in NY. The credit sequence with the music in the background SCARED the shit out of me. Just watching it even now brings chills down my spine.

If anyone has the score to the TV series please let me know.

Thanks

1 Man, 1 Million dead, The odds are just about even.

The Evil Dead trilogy will always be one of my favorites. The first Evil Dead was more on the horror side then the part 2 and Army Of Darkness. But that doesn't take anything away from it as a whole. I'm pretty sure this was my introduction to both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell and I haven't looked back since.
Since Army Of Darkness release in 1992, all I've hope for was another film in the series. It's been 15 years so I think the odds are pretty slim. Bruce still does some B-Level films where as Sam is a Hollywood big shot now. I still have my fingers crossed.

Anyway today I bring you the Evil Dead Trilogy score. Joseph LoDuca composed the music on all 3 films. You can hear how he's evolved as a composer throughout the 3 cds but still keeping the feel of the film in the process.

Enjoy

1...2...Freddy's coming for you.

I'm planning on watching as many of the Nightmare On Elm Street films as possible this week. While on the search for the OSTs from the series I was listening to Elm Street Dreams from the 1987 album Freddy's Greatest Hits. A fun little corny album that doesn't have any of the songs featured from the films, just some Freddy inspired songs. There are some good tracks to use to make a nice wacky Halloween mix with. Oh yeah the cover songs are so great, they need to be heard to fully understand the cheesiness of this album.

Enjoy

Dokken - Dream Warriors (A Nightmare On Elm Street 3)

I have too admit I love arena rock, It goes so well with movies from the 80's.

New podcast up!

Well episode 26 is up, so lend an ear and let me know what your thoughts are.

Borrowed from RDs site:
The October festivities continue!

With Jimmy and Umair being chased by a demented elderly gentleman with mini-iron balls of death, Joe, JoE, Brandon, and Pete lurks out from the shadows to jam about The Orange Box, Puzzle Quest, Yaris, the Silent Hill series, The Monster Club, amongst a slew of topics.

It’s useless to pull those sheets over your head, because you can’t escape the audio macabre that is Robotronic Dynamite Episode 26!

The seed is planted...terror grows.

I uploaded the soundtrack for Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Denny Zeitlin never composed another score again after IOTBS.

This is the remake from the 1956 classic. Directed by Phillip Kaufman (Rising Sun, Quills, The Wanderers) and Screenplay by W.D. Richter (Big Trouble In Little China).

A parasite or seed of sorts has traveled from space to reach planet Earth. When small flowering pods appear in San Francisco, two Health Department workers Matthew (Donald Sutherland) and Elizabeth (Brooke Adams) begin to uncover their appearance to the strange epidemic that has been going around the city. Citizens are claiming that those closest to them, friends and family members, are being replaced with exact duplicates...

Leonard Nimoy plays Dr. David Kidner and does a frightfully great job. All hell ensues with a fantastic conclusion.

Not as good as the original but stands on it's own as a good remake.

You can find the soundtrack here.

Sucker For Your Love

Today we are talking about Monster Club over at Robotronic Dynamite.. Check it out to hear our thoughts about it.

They were joined at birth by the devil and the evil never left them!

Brian De Palma's 1973 film takes you on a complete mind fuck journey! De Palma was trying to capture the Hitchcockian suspense and it many ways exceeded it. Even as far as smashing you in the face with references from Psycho and Rear Window.

Margot Kidder gives an amazing performance as Danielle Breton a woman haunted by her twin sister.

So I bring you one of Bernard Herrmann's last and best score. This is a score that stops just short of physically reaching out and shaking you by the shoulders.

Enjoy

A Mystical, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Kung Fu, Monster, Ghost Story!

I wouldn't consider Big Trouble In Little China a horror movie, but a good time none the less. One of John Carpenter finest films and one of my personal favorites.

When truck driver Jack Burton played by Kurt Russell wins a card game in Chinatown he gets more then he bargained for. Jacks friend Wang doesn't have the money to pay him. He tells him he'll pay him back later after he picks his girlfriend up at the airport. Jack wanting his money offers to give Wang a ride to the airport. When they get there Wangs girlfriend is kidnapped by David LoPans (James Hong) henchman. LoPan needs to marry his girlfriend because she is Chinese and has green eyes so he can become immortal. This is when Jack, Wang and Egg Shen (Victor Wong) go on an incredable adventure to rescue Miao Yin. Alley fights and mystical battles are just the tip of the iceberg is this non-stop film. A great movie that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age.

So today I bring you the extended soundtrack produced and composed by John Carpenter. I think this is Carpenters best score to date.

Enjoy

Monster Mash

Man how come they don't make songs like this anymore? The classic song from Bobby Pickett will always be the staple of Halloween for me.

Enjoy!

In Space No One Can Eat Ice Cream!

Killer Klowns will always be one of those films that when it's on TV I have to watch it. Directed by Stephen Chiodo which in fact hes never directed another film after Killer Klowns. I wonder why?

They came from outer space, in a spaceship that looks like a circus tent. They're aliens who look like circus clowns, and they're here to kill. Killer Klowns is very imaginative black comedy that will make you never look at cotton candy the same way again. The movie is so over the top that unless you have no sense of humor you should have a blast watching it.

I uploaded the soundtrack for your listening ears. The title track Killer Klowns (From Outer Space) by the Dickies is worth the download itself. Composed by John Massari hes worked on some of the greatest films of all time such as retro Puppet Master and Kickboxer 5. ^__^;

The soundtrack captures the wackiness of the film and it's just a lot of fun to listen to.

Friday The 13th Bloodbath Comic

So for the month of October (the best month out of the year) it's all about Horror and all things scary! Oh Boy!

Well today I bring to you The Friday the 13th Bloodbath 3 issue series from Avatar Press. Story by Brian Pulido and artwork done by Mike Wolfer. This comic is really over the top, both in gore and sex. Just the way it should be. The series was released at the end of 2005.

Get it here!

The Burning - theatrical trailer.

The Burning. Gotta love Slashers!

Anyway, today I uploaded the very hard to find OST from The Burning.
The legendary Rick Wakeman composed and performed on the soundtrack.
You can't beat the overuse of the 80's classic synthesizer.

Let me know what you guys think. I loved it to be honest.
Get it here!

Gather Around The Campfire To Die! (The Burning)

I really miss movie taglines from years ago. They made everything seem so dreaded! You knew you were if for a good time depending how deliciously bad the tagline was.

Here are some of my favorites:

Possession is nine-tenths of the law!
House Of Exorcism (1973)

White man....Black man....Every man! To take, to break, to play with any way she wished!
1,000 Convicts And A Woman (1971)

We are going to eat you!
Zombie
(1979)

Who will survive and what will be left of them?
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

They're back. They're hungry. And they're not vegetarian!
Return Of The Living Dead
(1985)

Killer to the left...Killer to the right...Stand up...Sit down...FRIGHT!FRIGHT!FRIGHT!
Return To Horror High (1987)

Wecome to BLOODHOUSE - where a woman's scream means no escape! The blood will haunt your nightmares forever! The slaughter never stops at....
The House Where Death Lives (1981)

Fear so intense it will stay with you to the grave - and beyond!
Dead And Buried (1981)

Bloodsucker! Deadlier than Dracula! Warm young bodies will feed his hunger and hot, fresh blood his awful thirst!
Blacula (1972)

And my all time favorite:

See the naked young Franciscans whipped with cactus. See the bandit leader disembowelled. See the priest ride into the sunset with a midget and her newborn baby. What it all means isn't exactly clear, but you won't forget it.

El Topo
(1971)

Zombi OST (Argento's Version)

In exchange for Dario Argento's help on Dawn of the Dead, George Romero allowed Argento to release a different cut of the movie in Europe. This version was called "Zombi". Instead of the score that Romero had used, Argento got Goblin to record a new soundtrack. Which in IMHO is a much better soundtrack.

So I give you Zombi (Dawn Of The Dead) OST by
Goblin

When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth.

I've been finding a lot of cool shit on the "net" recently. I really love this time of the year, getting cooler outside watching horror films. What more could you ask for?

Anyway I uploaded the Dawn Of The Dead comic series that came out in 2004. It's a 3 issue special which is pretty much a retelling of the story. This comic adaptation by Steve Niles and art done by Chee. All zombie and or Romero fans will want to check this out.

R.D. Episode 25: I Hope This Isn’t... Jimmy’s Food

New episode is up for your listening pleasure.

Stolen from the RD website:
October has finally arrived! Here at Robotronic Dynamite, we’re very fond of this month, filled with ghoulish delights and macabre frights.

To kick things off, the crew hammers the nail in the Halo 3 coffin...and the results are not what you’d expect! From there, we move to a reflection of the Resident Evil series: covering everything from Resident Evil 1 to Resident Evil: Deadly Strike. And to finish things off, we jam about the cult-hit, Spider Baby! The episode is so good, you’ll listen to it over and over again...until your eardrums BURST, spewing blood out of your audio orifices!

George A. Romero's Toe Tags Comic

In the spirit of Halloween I came across this great comic written by Horror icon George Romero. This is a 6 part series put out by DC Comics. Have you've ever thought how cool it would it be if an elephant stomped on a bunch of grotesque zombies alongside a hot chick? Well, here you go. I suggest any zombie or Romero fans check these out. It's a pretty good read.

Castellari's Law

My friend Umair Aleem directed this and co-wrote it with my man Joseph Luster. My boy did a throw back to old school Italian crime films. He really captured the style and feel of some of the best films of the 70's.

S'mores Crunch Cereal

I wish I could just eat one more bowl of S'mores Crunch my favorite cereal as a kid. Years later Kellogg's released Smorz and that's some bootleg broke ass wannabe cereal. S'mores Crunch couldn't be touched. I miss you S'mores.

Plus I have to mention:
What ever happen to one of my childhood favorite cereals? Fruity Yummy Mummy was the shit! Every year around Halloween I would just want to eat the Horror related cereal Fruity Yummy Mummy, Frankenberry, Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Fruit Brute. This sucks because I have a box of Boo Berry but seeing it just made me crave some Yummy Mummy even more!

ROBOTRONIC DYNAMITE MAKES JOYSTIQ PODCAST RODEO!!

Robotronic Dynamite lands on Joystiq's Podcast Rodeo this week. It's great the cast is getting recognized for the silliness and awesome time we have doing them.

"Robotronic Dynomite - Thanks to Hot Topic, we've been avoiding any two words in which the second one is "Dynamite" for fear that we'd run into a sad bastard wearing a "Vote For Pedro" T-shirt. But, we imagined that the coast was probably clear by now, and we were pleased with what we found. The host of this podcast describes himself as "freshly mustachioed," and it's hard to go wrong with that. The content's about what you'd expect, though the movie section is a nice touch. But it's all presented by a group of very likable guys, which, in the end, is the most important thing anyway, right?"

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/07/podcast-rodeo-for-oct-7-earhead/

Big thanks goes out to the rest of the cast and the folks over at Joystiq.

Robotronic Dynamite Podcast!

Yours truly as been invited to join the good people at Robotronic Dynamite in their weekly Podcast. Where we discuss movies and videogames. Please check out the site and take a listen you might like what you hear.

WOW! Halo 3 is a BLAST!

So I picked up Halo 3 at the midnight opening on Monday the 24th. I've never really been that big of a Halo fan. I've played very little of both one and two. I'm not sure what happen, but I got hit HARD with the Halo bug for part three. Let me explain, I went out and bought the Legendary set which cost me $130 bucks. 7-11 had 3 Halo hologram Slurpee cups so I went out and got those as well, Picked up a bottle of the Halo inspired drink called "Game Fuel" from Mountain Dew (which is really disgusting BTW). Medicom Toys released a Kubrik Master Chief collectors set with 4 different variations of the main character (Master Chief). My favorite of the toys released so far. Plus a slew of other toys that were released already and others will be in the near future. So anyway, I get home with this monster box which holds my Spartan Helmet and 2 DVDs (one for the game and another with extras). I crack open the game and throw it in my 360. That's when I knew I was in trouble. I was immediately hooked! I started with some Multi-player action and knew I was in for a rude awakening. This game is tough online, I had people on my team yelling at me that I sucked. Now you have to remember I never really played much of Halo. A really good part of 8 months was me playing Gears Of War. Halo has a completely different style of gameplay, which took me about 2 days to get used to the new controls but once I got the hang of it, It was ON! Like most online games there are rankings (level ups). Which doesn't really do anything for your character per say it's more of a bragging right. Seeing someone who is a captain vs. a recruit you know the captain knows his shit. All in all I love the multi-player aspect of Halo.

On to the story mode.. Thank god I have good friends who also picked up the game as well. A new feature in the series is a 4 player live co-op mode for the campaign. What that entails is being able to play the story mode with 3 other players anywhere in the world. Since my friends live all over the country this feature is priceless IMHO. 9 levels on Legendary mode (The Hardest mode in the game) with 3 of my friends was a complete blast to play. Being able to jump on a Warthog (a truck with a chaingun on the back of it) with one of your friends driving it and you operating the chaingun through a level, trying to avoid being hit or driving off a cliff is very intense, but yet very satisfying at the same time. The laughs we would have trying to discover where all the Skulls in the game were. Skulls are in secret locations throughout the game which open up options for you to tweek the game with. For example the Grunt Birthday Party Skull Effect is: When you get a headshot on an enemy Grunt, they will explode into confetti, and you'll hear children cheer. How awesome is that? Searching for the skulls took indurance and patience but the outcome is quite rewarding. The story of the game is your basic Sci-Fi: Man vs Alien, protect what's left of the world sort of thing. Not knowing the story for the two previous games didn't take away from the enjoyment I had from it.

A new feature in Halo 3 is Theater Mode. This allows you to go back and watch a stage you played on in either Multi-player or Campaign mode. For example say you threw a grenade and you killed 2 other players, what you can do is replay a video to that exact moment freeze frame it and take a snapshot of it. A great little thing they added is to be able to get a free roaming camera so you can take a snapshot from any angle. I find myself going back to theater mode to take some great snapshots all the time now. The photos are uploaded to Bungies website (The makers of Halo) which you can save or even share them with your friends.

Hands down I would recommend this game to anyone in to First Person Shooters or FPS for short. I'm off to play some more now!

Here is a victory pic of my friends and I after we spent a good 30+ minutes searching for a skull!

Blue Wolf - To The Ends Of Earth And Sea

Just finish watching it and the only thing epic about it is it's running time. Let me back up for a minute. The story follows 3 generations of Temujin (Genghis Khan) life. I have to admit I know very little of Genghis Khans life so I'm viewing the movie as a history lesson as well. Temujin isn't born until about 30 minutes in to the film. As he grows older loyalty and love are put to the test. Torn with a friendship vow he took many years ago with Jamuqa (Yusuke Hirayama). Betrayal in the highest regard to which he would become the new Khan. This puts their friendship to it's limits, ultimately all in the name of power. This to me is where the film fails. The battles should have been in grand scale but we are left with five minute battles that fails to capture the feel and the importance of these historical battles. I understand the film was more of the life of Genghis rather then a war hero, more of an intimate look at his life in which case I'm OK with. But on the other hand we are talking about someone who had power in most of Asia, the film just felt like we were missing something. Did they have this film with kids in mind? Cause throughout it all I keep asking myself was this a kids movie. Don't get me wrong it's a good film about the beginnings of Genghis Khan but I was left with wanting more. In the end it felt more like a TV made movie then an Epic tale from Japan. Which is all the more reason I'm looking forward to seeing Mongol. Having Sergei Bodrov direct it I hope he brings a different view of Genghis.

I think Kurosawa is to be blamed for this, as he spoiled me with his battle scenes which no other can come close to matching.

Also I do have to tip my hat to the cast of Blue Wolf, they did an incredible job. I found myself caring on what would happen to some of the characters. Which is a very good thing, it helps me get in to the film more.

Food Of The Gods

Man they don't make films like this anymore. Giant killer rats, 3 foot long Wasps, Maggots the size of a cat, enormous killer chickens. Gotta love it. Based on the novel by H.G. Wells. It's about this farm couple on a remote island that have been feeding these insects and animals a liquid substance called the "food of the gods". which makes them grow 10 times their size. Until they start to run wild it's up to our hero of the film to save the day. Very low budget film and the SFX shows it, but that just adds to the enjoyment of it. Great campy movie here anyone in to old school cheesy B-level horror needs to check this out.
BTW: MGM did a great job with this release. It's only 10 bucks so there isn't a reason not to get it.

Just look at the poster.. Soak it in..

Reign Over Me

When the movie first started I thought I made a mistake throwing it in. I wasn't really in the mood to watch a drama. Man I'm glad I sucked it up, because this turned out to be a great movie. Not many films make me feel for the characters on screen. This was a completely different story, I felt Sandlers pain and his performance really moved me. The chemistry between Sandler and Cheadle was masterful. Yeah big word but their performances deserve it. Always seeing Sandler as a goofball you get tired of the same old thing. But whatever the case this guy can act, I think I would rather see him do more films like Reign Over Me instead of shit like The Longest Yard. Great film that almost made me cry at the end, which isn't hard cause I cry watching a lot of films. Real raw emotion, just a fantastic film.
